Dealing with depression

Dealing with depression can be challenging, but there are several strategies that can be helpful. Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Regular physical activity: Regular physical activity can be a valuable tool in the treatment of depression. Physical activity can help improve mood and energy, as well as sleep quality.

  2. Balanced diet: Food can affect our mental well-being. Eating a balanced, nutritious diet can help relieve symptoms of depression.

  3. Relaxation Techniques: Techniques like meditation and deep breathing can help reduce stress and anxiety, common symptoms of depression.

  4. Psychotherapy: Psychotherapy has been shown to be effective in treating depression. It can help identify and change negative thought patterns that may contribute to depression. It helps to have a "formal" place where you can freely talk about your feelings and thoughts, without judgment, simply from an understanding, empathetic perspective, with feedback based on techno-scientific psychology.

  5. Support Network: Talking to friends and family about your feelings can be extremely beneficial. Never underestimate the power of feeling understood and supported.

  6. Sleep hygiene: Depression can affect sleep, so it's important to establish a regular sleep routine. Avoid caffeine in the afternoon and evening, create an environment in which you can sleep, and try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.

  7. Medication: In some cases, medication may be necessary to help treat depression. If necessary, I will assess and refer you and conduct a multidisciplinary follow-up.

It's very common when you're depressed that you have trouble putting all of these points into practice. Psychotherapy sessions are also used to find out how to implement these points if you want to.

Remember that if you are struggling with depression, it is important to seek the help of a mental health professional. This is not a trail to walk alone and help is available.
