Psychoterapy in English language

I work with English spoken clients, with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, panic, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, difficulties in dealing with emotions, mood swings, low self-esteem, interpersonal problems, challenges of adolescence and young adulthood, and more. Psychotherapy is for everyone.

I believe the goal of psychotherapy is to obtain the self-knowledge that leads to a better resilience, expanding your own possibilities in life.

After deciding to start such a process, working together as a team with a psychotherapist, can be both empowering and frightening. I work with respect of my client's uniqueness, subjectivity, the hallmark of our every step together.

Trust, safety, confidentiality and comfort are crucial in a psychotherapeutical relationship, along with a style marked by warmth and collaboration.

 

Most of my private clients receive medium- or long-term relational psychoanalytic psychotherapy at a frequency of sessions from 1 to 2 times weekly. This work is of a far more explorative nature examining how stories we tell ourselves, relationship patterns, dreams and slips can give clues about our lives. Such work can help shift patterns we continuously get stuck in, to give renewed creativity and interest in life and its possibilities.

 

- What is Psychotherapy?

 

Psychotherapy is a process whereby a clinical psychologist and a client who meet in privacy and confidence, to explore and think about the client's emotional or psychological difficulties. This could take the form of distressing feelings, thoughts or memories related to the circumstances in your current life or in your past.

Psychotherapy is about being able to take an honest look at yourself with your psychotherapist, in order to gain new insights, and through this process, become more empowered to deal with your emotional problems. Psychotherapy is about alleviating psychological distress through exploring your experiences, this is partly through talking, and partly through gaining more insight and understanding of your internal processes in the moment.

The change and growth that comes from knowing yourself better, will promote more effective choices in all areas of your life.

 

- How long does it last?

 

Individual Psychotherapy sessions last for 50 minutes and usually take place on a weekly basis. How many sessions you have and the length of the sessions will be agreed together. It is not usually possible to tell you exactly how many sessions you will need as this depends upon several individual factors including your level of motivation and the nature of your specific problems. However, I will regularly review our work together, what your goals are, and whether you view yourself as making the progress you wish to make in the psychotherapy. Some people only require a few sessions over weeks or months, whereas others may come for longer term Psychotherapy over a number of years. Psychotherapy is a personal process, what happens in your own psychotherapy process will be unique to you.

 

- What type of psychotherapy will you have?

 

Relational Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy - focuses on the ways early experiences in family relationships, and the relationships with others, can affect our development and well being throughout life. Such experiences can have a profound effect on our sense of self.

 

- Where?

 

My psychoterapy practice office is in the center of Lisbon (in Amoreiras Square Building) and/or online psychoterapy through video call on Skype, WhatsApp or Zoom.

 

- What is Online Psychotherapy?

 

The Online Psychotherapy is a convenient way for you to access psychological help anywhere in the world without needing to travel to appointments. You can access online psychotherapy through your computer, tablet or smart phone at home or any other private location where you have good Internet access.

 

The aim of online consultation is to provide you with a psychological consultation in the same way as attending a physical appointment.
